The Pre-Game

Philadelphia... The further away you get, the better it looks.

Bajai Boot Camp Season 6

With less than a week left of BBC5 I figured I'd set up this blog to help facilitate a smooth transition into the sixth Season of this blog and my fitness commitment. It may or may not sound crazy, but I try to train every day; and one way or the other, even if it's only a long walk, a run up the steps to the train platform or a few dozen pushups before breakfast, I succeed.

I've been at this exercise game for nearly twenty years now. I'm not certain whether I started in 1996 or '97, but when I got going I never looked back. I've been going steadily since getting through that first awkward (and painful) year. I began with what I liked doing most, pumping iron. And then after getting certified as a personal trainer I started my free-range education in the various aspects of fitness; the gadgets, the gimmicks, the strategies, the myths and the facts. Between study, research, trial and error, continuing education workshops and classes and the interwebs, I've become pretty good at what I do. I've completely restructured my physique and have possibly even slowed down my aging process (of course some might credit that more to good genes than good habits.)

Last Season I set a goal to hit a 3:1 muscle to body fat ratio; happily I made that goal but unfortunately I have not been able to maintain it. I have yet to figure out exactly why. I'm pretty sure it's somewhere between food consumed and energy expended. I eat better than I have in the last two decades, but it's still not extremely clean or regimented.  This season I'll either have to increase one and decrease the other - but more likely a combination of both.

Season 6, I believe will be an abbreviated one, or at the very least it won't be as consistent as the past 5 seasons; my main goal is to get out of Philadelphia and hit and pretty much live different places for the next 5 years. (Although I may realistically have to take things one year, or month, at a time.) I plan to fully explore the Minimum Wage Fitness concept where ever I go and maybe even find a gym gig or outdoor bootcamp to earn some traveling dough.

Goals for this year, aside from leaving Philadelphia; I'm continuing my quest to get the weight down to a sustainable 170 - 175lbs.; improve my body weight training strength and probably after the end of 2016 get more into yoga practice. I want a sustainable 4:1 muscle mass to body fat ratio - I'm envisioning something like 80 lbs muscle, 20 lbs fat - which would require me to drop, at this point anywhere from 8 - 10 lbs of fat without losing muscle... or a combination of muscle growth and fat loss. I also need to get and keep my endurance up. More than likely after December 16th I won't be spending 7 - 8 hours of my day sitting at a desk... which I expect to make a big difference. Last season I dropped weight and increased ratio during days off from work, as well as vacations.

Also this season, I am imagining bringing these reports to my YouTube Channel [Noxsoma] along with some other health and fitness projects. Hope it's not too boring, but I'm sure someone will be able to get something out of it.

Finally, a quick history of this project; In 2011, on Father's Day, which fell on the same date at Father's Day this year, I decided to start running through the woods. I was nearly 185 lbs., which wasn't bad but I wanted to and thought I could do better. Also, I'd been keeping a journal of my workouts in one of those Fat Book spiral notebooks. On that day I made two decisions, first, I should be working out, exercising and/or training everyday; and two, I might as well create a blog to document it. I called it Ruggedness because I wanted to be more rugged and do more rugged training. By the end of 2011, despite some ups and downs in weight, I finished the year at 180 lbs. and visibly slimmer. And everything continued from that point to this one.

I expect this season to be full of changes and challenges; nonetheless I will do my best to keep myself... and anyone who manages to find this "secret" (very under publicized) blog, informed, inspired and entertained.

Cheers.
